Sarah
Sarah has done a brilliant job since joining Green Mop. Her Site Inspection scores are consistently good, never dropping below the expected 4 out of 5. All our Green Moppers have to work hard to achieve the Green Mop standard, and Sarah does so with a smile. The customer feedback from the sites that Sarah works at has also been fab!

So, thank you very much Sarah!

SBAGreen Mop have made the Sussex Business Awards Shortlist for The Health, Work and Wellbeing Award category.

We’re up against two very different businesses, Aqua Medical and Domestic & General. Our nomination focussed on the fact that we help the health and wellbeing of many people in lots of different workplaces. Replacing toxic chemicals with people friendly ones is good for all our customers and their colleagues. So I am very proud of the recognition by making the shortlist.

The full list is in today’s Argus, or on the Sussex Business Awards website.

I am also pleased to see that quite a lot of our customers appear on the shortlist too. Could be a good party…

KazooThis morning, I attended a very important Chamber of Commerce breakfast event. All manner if interesting people reflecting the diverse nature of the local business community. Connections and introductions taking place, advice and recommendations being imparted, business relationships being developed. All very serious and vital to encourage a thriving business sector for our area.

And then we all went outside with a kazoo secreted about our person. Yes. A kazoo. We milled about a bit. We tried to act naturally, like we always hang around outside the library with a kazoo in our pocket. A man in a hat started hooting “Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside”. Then another started, then another… and then we were all hooting and tooting on our kazoos whilst onlookers gawped. I tried hooting, but was mainly in hysterics. This, I have learned, was a Flash Mob. This was the business community being silly!

Before I joined the Chamber of Commerce, I though that it sounded like a stuffy, old fashioned business institution. It really isn’t!! So just wanted to say to any other businesses who, like me, have a preconception of what The Chamber might be like that it’s a friendly and fun gang to be a part of. And you learn valuable new life skills, like Flash Mobbing and kazoo hooting…

Cheesy sales guy
Bigger cleaning companies than us usually have a sales person that goes along to win business who promises things that simply can’t be achieved by the cleaning team. I’m really not a sales person! But I do know what can be achieved with realistic cleaning schedule. With most quotes, I take one of my cleaning supervisors with me too so that they can help me work out an achievable cleaning plan, and therefore a realistic price.

It is a tricky balancing act. But I believe in being open and honest with both potential customers and existing customers. I never make promises that cannot be maintained. False promises may win us the business, but we won’t keep the cleaning staff or the customer happy with unrealistic expectations.

Clarity in what work can and will be done for the quoted price is crucial. We have had the occassional situation where customers stretch the task list a bit! We’re happy to be flexible, but additions or changes to the original specification may affect other tasks. An additional task may mean prioritising other work. Or a late meeting or staff party may mean that the same levels of cleaning cannot be expected or achieved.

I would hope that most people prefer an open and honest attitude!
