Accidental poisoning from household chemicals is one of the most common forms of poisoning in toddlers and young children today.

We all put medication and pain killers out of reach of children, but we tend to keep household cleaning products in the cupboard under the sink!

I love your posts that raise awareness of the hazards in our homes to ourselves and our children.

Looking at the statistics about accidental poisoning in our children is terrifying. If we had statistics on what the long term affect these chemical had on all of us, we would probably run for the hills!

Our grandparents seemed to do just fine with the non-toxic, non-carcinogenic alternatives you have brought back into focus. In researching cancer prevention we tossed nearly every commercial cleaner from our closets, and, funny perhaps, the old-time cleaners like baking soda work just as well at a fraction of the cost and a fraction of the risk. I look forward to following your postings of great ideas!

One that was especially profound for me was brass cleaner. I was cleaning the brass on the bar in our walkout basement and was horrified to see several carcinogens listed. I needed reading glasses to see the small warning label that this product may cause cancer in humans. Now, we use worsestershire sauce to clean the brass. Much cheaper and works as well without the cancer risk. Just make sure to clean it off in time so it does not corrode.

Keep raising awareness!
